Learn Martial Arts At Point Blank Martial Arts And Fitness Center

Come join me on an international trip to learn some martial arts moves! In this first international episode of Live, Laugh & Learn With Chris, I’m heading to Vaughan, Ontario, Canada to visit  Point Blank Martial Arts & Fitness Center. We’ll chat with my very cool brother Steve Hyatt, to learn all about the training that Point Blank offers.

Meet Steve Hyatt

Vaughan, Ontario is located just north of Toronto, Canada. At the practically brand-new Point Blank Martial Arts & Fitness Center, we had a chance to interview the owner, and Head Mixed Martial Arts Instructor of Point Blank: my very cool brother Steve Hyatt.

Like most kids, Steve watched a tremendous number of martial arts movies growing up. He always wanted to do it and thought it looked cool, but he didn’t quite get it at that age. Later, Steve and his best friend in 11th-grade Math started training together—and his interest grew.

From there, the pair founded their first Jeet Kune Do club. They continued training, and before he knew it, Steve was the owner of his very own training center.

Tips For Beginners

If you’ve ever thought about taking a martial arts class, you might have a lot of questions. What are the benefits of training in martial arts? What can people expect from a class? Can people of different ages and physical abilities train?

Steve tells us that one of the first things they do is ensure that all of the lessons are fun, safe and educational. There’s a big stigma about martial arts; many think they need to be a big, tough, in-shape person to get value out of training. However, this simply isn’t true.

People don’t need to be worried about their physical limitations or what shape they’re in if they want to study martial arts. At Point Blank, they have people from 95 pounds to 345 pounds who train. Many people tell Steve they want to wait until they get in shape to start training in martial arts. However, that’s like waiting until you’re smart enough to go to school—it doesn’t make any sense.

People come here to get in shape, learn and have a great time while doing it. This is exactly what Point Blank provides.

Equipment and Safety

At Point Blank Martial Arts & Fitness Center, there is a variety of equipment available. From weight training to obstacle course training, they’ve got all kinds of fun stuff to keep people doing different things for their fitness. Steve tries to make sure to incorporate every physical attribute within their training.

Additionally, they also provide the facility to all of their members to use at their leisure during opening hours. This allows them to enhance their own personal workouts and drive their own personal goals while also learning martial arts. The environment itself is also safe, especially when it comes to air quality.

Point Blank features two wonderful machines that were designed by NASA. Using the same technology that’s used on the International Space Station, they eradicate anything larger than an oxygen particle. This means you can’t catch a virus, bacteria or fungus at the fitness center; nothing lives there but oxygen, making everyone ridiculously safe. This gives a lot of peace of mind to both students and their families, especially during these times.

The Benefits

When it comes to the benefits of martial arts training, there are many. Steve says the top three, though, are self-confidence, socialization and fun. First, the self-confidence you’ll receive is amazing.

As you train, you’ll be able to be competent and comfortable in physical settings. You’ll build your character, your resilience and your expectations for any confrontation you face—for the rest of your life. While this doesn’t necessarily give you the skills to beat the crap out of anybody, it provides you with the self-confidence to address any situation that comes up.

Second, the social benefits are key. You get to be with actual people doing actual things. You’re also able to understand what you’ve learned in class and apply it right then with individual people.

The third benefit is the fun and entertainment value. Knowing you’re learning and living with a whole great group of people that are here to support you is an environment you can’t miss.

Begin Your Training

Learning martial arts skills helps keep you safe, improves your overall health and allows you to gain a sense of competence that you can take with you throughout your whole life. This bleeds into all kinds of other areas of your life.

So if you’re ready to learn martial arts, visit Point Blank Martial Arts & Fitness Center today. Talk to Steve at 416-903-2789 or call me at 619-925-2322 for more information. You can also check out Point Blank’s website to find out everything you need to know.

International Cuisine At National City’s Market On 8th Food Hall

Did you know that National City is home to an ethnic food hall full of delicious eats? In this episode of Live, Laugh & Learn With Chris, my gal pal Danielle Berkeley and I are going to take you on a tasting tour of Market On 8th in National City. We’ll explore the different kitchens serving up amazing cuisine so you can get a taste of what this community gathering place has to offer.

International Flavors At Market On 8th

Danielle and I love to pop in at all the latest and greatest spots around San Diego—and this is one of Danielle’s favorites. The South Bay is doing it right with Market On 8th, a food hall that hosts 12 individual restaurants. Known as the mini Grand Central LA Market, there are also two vendors, a brewery, and a lovely outdoor patio.

The vibe inside the market is just wonderful. There are a variety of different choices for food, many of which celebrate the area’s ethnicities. Try Weapon Ramen for amazing Japanese flavors, or opt for adobo fried chicken sandwiches at Indonesian Café. Ping Yang offers Thai skewers, while Kaiju Pizza offers pies with a Japanese twist.

In addition to many delicious food options, Market On 8th is home to Novo Brazil Brewing Company, a local brewery that serves Brazilian beer and kombucha. To get your coffee fix, don’t forget to stop by Moe’s Coffee for a fresh-roasted cup.

Bringing The Community Together

All of the amazing culinary and drink options at Market On 8th are all local and from a variety of different cultures. If you know San Diego, you know that National City is a very multicultural and diverse area. The more you come to the South Bay, the more you’re going to see communities embracing that, showing you that, and welcoming you in.

This food hall is one of the newest hottest spots in San Diego. You can have a great time eating, drinking, and joining the local neighborhood—and National City has got it going on. Additionally, you can rent out the space for private events. It’s also a great place to come down and get some work done or have a meeting, surrounded by wonderful architecture and a lively community.

The outdoor area features some amazing, large charcoal firepits, perfect for eating and drinking while chatting with friends. When it’s a little chilly, you can cozy up inside at the many tables as well. Overall, Market On 8th is a great spot right off the highway that you have to check out.

Enjoy San Diego Summers At The Mission Bay Beach Club

Did you know there’s a great beach club in San Diego that once used to be an information booth in the 1970s? In this episode of Live, Laugh & Learn With Chris, my gal pal Danielle and I visit the Mission Bay Beach Club, San Diego’s newest waterfront destination. We’ll explore everything from the coffee and juice bar to beach rentals offered so you can make the most of your summer days.

Everything’s Better At The Beach

The Mission Bay Beach Club is located on San Diego’s beautiful Mission Bay. The building used to be an old information booth in the 1970s, which ran derelict before being resurrected. There’s a cafĂ©, rentable bikes, an ice cream cart and more. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy those endless summer days!

Aside from offering great amenities and places for people to sit and relax, the Mission Bay Beach Club also hosts a variety of activities, such as yoga in the park. They plan to host events in summer, such as concerts and more.

Vegan Options At Superbloom

If you want to grab a soothing cup of coffee or an organic, cold-pressed juice, you’ll want to stop at Superbloom. They have an amazing assortment of vegan treats, including hot cocoa and chocolate chip cookies. Though I’m not normally a huge fan of vegan food, Superbloom’s selection is actually really tasty.

Superbloom is definitely a spot you’ll want to come and check out. Made with vegan ingredients, you might be surprised at how delicious their options are.

Enjoy A Day At The Bay

I hope this gave you a good idea of the food, fun and beautiful scenery you can enjoy at the Mission Bay Beach Club. Make sure you stay tuned to the next edition of Live, Laugh & Learn With Chriss for more pop-up fun with my gal pal Danielle Berkeley.

Welcome To Mira Mesa!

Are you looking to live in a diverse San Diego neighborhood with great amenities? In this episode of Live, Laugh & Learn With Chris, I take you on a tour of Mira Mesa, in San Diego County. We’ll join my gal pal Danielle Berkeley to explore everything from the city’s Top Gun history to delicious eateries so you can get to know the area better.

Welcome To Mira Mesa

Mira Mesa is located in San Diego County, a bit north of central downtown. A lot of people consider the area to be extremely densely populated with tons of traffic.

However, despite its reputation for being a busy city, it’s actually more like a little suburb and a city within a larger city. Mira Mesa is quite lovely and a must-see for those looking to move to or within San Diego.

A Need For Speed

There are a variety of things that make Mira Mesa special—one of which is its association with the famous movie Top Gun. That “highway to the danger zone” was located at the Naval Air Station Miramar and has given its name to different streets around Mira Mesa, like Topgun Avenue. Many famous filming locations can still be visited by the general public.

In keeping with the theme of soaring through the skies, Mira Mesa is also home to the Leatherneck Museum. If you’re an aviation enthusiast, it’s an outstanding place to visit. You will see some very rare birds there as well (pun intended), as you can get into certain parts of the base. The Miramar Lake and Reservoir also provides access to the fish.

Diverse Eateries And Hidden Secrets

Another great thing about Mira Mesa is the excellent restaurants it offers. You’ll find eateries from all different ethnic backgrounds that are absolutely outstanding. Some examples include Tofu House, Manna BBQ for Korean Barbecue, and one of the most popular pho places, Pho Cow Cali, on Mira Mesa Boulevard.

Along with plenty of places to chow down, Mira Mesa is home to some hidden secrets most people don’t know about. While Danielle won’t give away all of this neighborhood’s secrets, there are supposedly some hidden haunted houses in the area. You’ll have to do your own research to find them, she says, but I bet it’s worth the hunt.

Another secret most people don’t know about is that many of the area’s industrial complexes have great stores and restaurants in them. While you’d think they were dead ends or just businesses, you can find a lot of great hidden gems in these areas. Lastly, Mira Mesa is the home of San Diego’s only Vietnamese New Year celebration. Called the San Diego Tet Festival, this fun event is held every year around early February.

Coming Soon

Does Mira Mesa sound like a place that would fit you and your family? If so, I’m very excited to share a sneak peek of a coming-soon property right here in Mira Mesa. This single-family, three-bedroom, two-bath home is undergoing an amazing renovation.

The property will be available in early 2022. Stay tuned to this channel to find out more, or you can always reach out to me and I’ll be happy to connect! Make sure to subscribe to my channel so you never miss an episode of Live, Laugh & Learn With Chris, and see what I feature next!

You Don’t Want To Miss These Pacific Beach Gems

Are you thinking of living in Pacific Beach and want to know more about this amazing neighborhood? In this episode of Live, Laugh & Learn With Chris, I’m going to show you some special things that residents and tourists should check out in Pacific Beach. We’ll look at everything from parks to the beach and end with a teaser you won’t want to miss.

Pacific Beach Points of Interest

The first area on our list that you must visit is Kate Sessions Park. This park features absolutely stunning ocean and city views and covers a massive 79 acres. Tourmaline Beach is also a beautiful spot that not a lot of people know about. Another classic Pacific Beach attraction you won’t want to miss is the boardwalk and Crystal Pier. Crystal Pier is so much fun, featuring cottages right on the pier with water underneath.

Not everything is on the main streets of Pacific Beach; there are some areas known mostly to locals. One such hidden gem is Turquoise Street, an area full of little boutiques, good coffee shops, restaurants and smoothies. You can also easily bike or walk on the little canyon pathways to access La Jolla and Birdrock, both great surf spots. The Rose Creek bike pathway, which is a really great thoroughfare, connects to the trolley.

Food And Drink

Spending time in the beautiful sunshine is bound to make you a little bit hungry and thirsty. Here in PB, there are plenty of places to grab a drink and a bite. One option includes World Famous, a beachfront restaurant serving up fresh seafood.

You can also head to the iconic PB Shore Club, offering more beach views, great fish tacos and delicious pub bites. For a classy experience, try Tower 23, a hotel dining experience with excellent Sunday brunch. Who doesn’t love a beachside mimosa?

Make PB Your Home

I hope this gave you a good idea of some of the amazing things to do in Pacific Beach. As promised, I wanted to give you a little teaser for a “coming soon” property that will hit the market in about four to five weeks. We’re completely redoing a super unique, single-family, three-bedroom, two-bath house, bringing it from The Brady Bunch 1970s into the 2020s.

This home will be located on a street called Chalcedony, right here in Pacific Beach.
